A Sumatran Tiger was Found Dead in Aceh, Sumatra (March 12, 2023)

A Sumatran tiger was found dead in a resident's plantation in Bukit Meueh Village near Mount Lhok Siron, Meukek subdistrict, South Aceh regency of Aceh province on Saturday morning (11/3/2023). Head of Meukek subdistrict, South Aceh, Izwar told the press that the Sumatran tiger was found dead in a wild boar snare.

The subdistrict head has reported the finding of the dead tiger to the Aceh Wildlife Authority (BKSDA) and the BKSDA has conducted a necropsy and surveyed the location on Sunday March 12,  2023 for investigation of the case.

The head of Aceh BKSDA, Gunawan Alza, urges all levels of society to jointly protect wildlife, especially the Sumatran tiger (Panthera Tigris Sumatrae) by not destroying forests which are the habitat of various species of  animals. Mr. Ihza also reminded the public to prevent capturing, injuring, killing, owning, trading  protected animals alive or dead.

Gunawan stressed that kiling protected animal subject to criminal sanctions in accordance with applicable laws and regulations because the Sumatran tiger (Panthera tigris sumatrae) is a protected species in Indonesia. (Serambi)
